We came across DevExpress as we were approaching a major rework of our application. As part of this rework, our goal was to redesign the UI so as to make our software look more sleek and professional. Before using DevExpress, we dabbled with freeware components and found them to be buggy and with too many restrictions. We also looked at several other more expensive options.
Overall, with RibbonControl from DevExpress, we were able to redesign our application in Outlook2007-style in a very short time. RibbonControl was a huge time saver for us.
We also ended up using XtraGrid in our application. XtraGrid provided us with all the cool stuff to make the user experience complete. Everything worked as expected: our users now can customize column lists, sort data, filter data, change column order, and save and restore custom views.
Before we got our hands on DevExpress ChartControl, we evaluated several others options for charts. We found the flexibility and ease of implementation of DevExpress unmatched. We did not have to worry about any annoying quirks like custom wrapping or placement of long labels next to charts. Over the years, we worked with a number of custom controls. Working with DevExpress was like a breath of fresh air.
