Use the DevExpress MCP Server
for AI-powered Development

The DevExpress MCP Server connects GitHub Copilot and other AI coding assistants to our
comprehensive documentation database.

AI-powered Development with DevExpress MCP Server

With the MCP Server, you'll have instant access to 300,000+ help topics, allowing you to:

  • Generate code for DevExpress UI components using natural language prompts
  • Obtain contextual answers about APIs, properties, and implementation patterns
  • Run semantic search across DevExpress help topics and documents
  • Get up-to-date technical guidance for DevExpress product/component libraries
Works with your favorite development tools:

Visual Studio 2022/2026, VS Code, Cursor, JetBrains Rider, and MCP-compatible AI agents (for example, GitHub Copilot, JetBrains AI Assistant, and Claude Code).

Get started in minutes.

The DevExpress MCP Server is free and works with all DevExpress product libraries. Add the server endpoint to your IDE configuration to give the AI coding agent instant access to DevExpress documentation.

Set up MCP Server

Three Ways to Get Started

Choose the option that fits your workflow. Setup takes about a minute and
requires no key, token, or account.

Start a New Project

Start a New Project

Create a project with the DevExpress Template Kit for Visual Studio or VS Code and select the Use DevExpress MCP option. The Template Kit registers the DevExpress MCP Server for you, and your agent detects the server on first launch.

Install in One Click

Install in One Click

The quickest way to add the MCP Server to an existing project. Click an install button, and your IDE adds the server endpoint to your MCP configuration.

Configure Manually

Configure Manually

Add the https://api.devexpress.com/mcp/docs endpoint to .mcp.json, mcp.json, or your agent settings. Then install skills for your technology stack from the DevExpress/agent-skills.

For IDE-specific setup steps, refer to the MCP Server documentation.

Review AI-generated code. Check generated code for architecture issues, security vulnerabilities, and compliance
with your project standards. Output quality depends on the prompt, the model, and the clarity of your project code.

for DevExpress AI Skills and the MCP Server.

What is the difference between AI Skills and the MCP Server?

Skills are curated playbooks that teach your agent the patterns and rules we recommend. The DevExpress MCP Server is a live connection to our documentation. Your agent uses the server to look up current, version-specific details.

Skills answer the question "How do I build this?" The DevExpress MCP Server answers the question "What does the current API documentation say?"

Learn how skills hand off tasks to the MCP Server

Do I need a DevExpress license for AI Skills or the MCP Server?

No. You can install and use AI Skills and the MCP Server without a license. To use DevExpress components in your application, you need a DevExpress subscription.

Skills target DevExpress v26.1 and later. The MCP Server covers releases back to v24.2.

Can I use AI Skills without an internet connection?

Yes. Your agent reads skill folders from your project or global skills directory locally. This approach works on isolated networks and with local models.

Installed skills do not cover all DevExpress topics. For other topics, your agent needs an internet connection to query the MCP Server or online documentation.

Which AI models work best?

AI Skills and the MCP Server work with any model that supports tool calls. Current frontier models produce the most reliable results in multi-step component tasks.

Skills state correct APIs up front and improve results for smaller and local models. You choose the model and keep control over cost, hosting, and data policy.

Does the MCP Server access my source code?

No. The MCP Server returns DevExpress documentation only. Your agent calls the server to search and retrieve help topics. The server has no access to your codebase, project files, or application data.

Are there usage limits or extra charges?

No. Currently, DevExpress does not limit or charge for AI Skills or MCP Server requests (we reserve the right to do so in the future). You pay only for your AI agent or model subscription (if any).

How do I report an issue or request a new skill?

Submit a ticket in the DevExpress Support Center. We process feedback about skills and the MCP Server there, together with your other support tickets.

How often do you update skills and documentation?

The DevExpress MCP Server provides direct access to our live documentation, so updates are available to your agent as soon as they're published. We update AI Skills with every DevExpress release and continuously add new plugins to the DevExpress AI Skills repository as they become available.

Connect Your Agent to DevExpress

Configure the DevExpress MCP Server, install AI Skills that match your technology stack, and give your
coding agent the knowledge it needs to generate accurate, documentation-aligned DevExpress code.
