Since 1996, REITEC has developed individualized software solutions for its worldwide clientele. REITEC's primary development focus is on CAD interfaces, CAD add-ons and CAD automation (including 3D CAD applications for desktop and web). Pedoffice is used primarily in orthopedic centers and offers users both patient and order management functionality. The app's order management interface facilitates the production of orthopedic shoes and insoles. The user can launch all required measurements (2D, 3D or pressure measurements) from within an order and read in the appropriate measurement data.

The ability to incorporate different measurement devices from multiple manufacturers represents a unique feature of the tool. Based on measurement data, an individual's shoe size is determined, and further correction values are calculated. Pedoffice displays data within a 3D viewport, which the user can rotate interactively. All measurements are displayed on top of one another and can be made transparent. Using an integrated product configurator, pedoffice users can now specify the exact characteristics of the insole or the shoe itself (padding, materials, cover, etc.).

By pressing a button, pedoffice automatically transmits collected data to the appropriate manufacturer (who can open and process the information directly in a CAD system). Once in hand, the manufacturer can then transfer the order to its production department.

Describe Your Biggest Development Obstacle

Our biggest challenge was the implementation of our 3D viewport. In this particular application, we use a WPF 3D viewport without any further additions. Other challenges included efficient data display/rendering such as 3D scan STL data, sensor data from foot pressure measuring platforms, and 2D image data. In addition, pedoffice required the introduction of numerous interaction options including manual alignment of measurements to one another, correction functions, and a rotation function.

The DevExpress WPF Suite gave us access to a rich-collection of UI components at a reasonable price. The DevExpress Support Team was extremely competent and always answered our technical questions in timely fashion.

The design of a clear and easy-to-use interface was high on our priority list. The first version of pedoffice was developed without the use of DevExpress UI components. When we presented this version to our customer, we were asked to redesign the app to meet his specific business requirements.

As long-time users of DevExpress WinForms UI components, we decided to explore the DevExpress WPF product line and quickly discovered the perfect UI metaphor within the DevExpress Demo Center. We chose to base our application on the DevExpress "Touch-Enabled Hybrid App" and delivered our first DevExpress-powered UI prototype to our customer. Needless to say, the customer was enthusiastic and convinced by the app's clear user guidance, its high-usability and its perfect design (using colors from his corporate brand).

Since its release, end users have confirmed that pedoffice has established a new standard within this sector.
