                                  • Hi.
I want to create a simple application that can open a Microsoft Server table at run time,
and populate a grid with this data.
I want the grid to be able to edit the data (add, update, delete).
Do you have some sample code, or even a sample project that I can use to see the best / easiest way to do this ?
                                    Thanks
                                    Jim

                                Hi Jim,

Thank you for your question. I am afraid that we have no examples specific to a certain database. However, all necessary information is available in the documentation. I suggest that you refer to the following documents:

                                XtraGrid Data Binding Specifics
                                Traditional Data Binding Methods

Pleases let us know, if you need any further assistance.

                                Thanks,
                                Uriah

                                Hi Uriah

you mention that you "have no examples specific to a certain database".
I'm actually using VistaDB, but happy to have an example using any Database.
Your "Traditional Data Binding Methods" mentions Microsoft SQL Server version 7.0 for the SqlDataAdapter.

I have asked a lot of questions from DevExpress,
and have always been happy with the answer,
except for the rather curt answer below.

Is there any one else in your team who could provide me with some help ?

                                Thanks
                                Jim

                                Hi Jim,

I am concerned to hear that my answer was not helpful. Would you please clarify in greater detail what difficulty you experience using the approach described in the documentation? In the documentation we describe how to bind GridView to the database using the Microsoft ADO.NET technology that is common for all databases. I believe that the described approach will work if you replace SqlDataAdapter with the VistaDBDataAdapter and SqlConnection with the VistaDbConnection (all these classes are described in the VistaDB online documentation).

If you have already tried this, but still experience some difficulties, describe them in greater detail. I will be happy to help you resolve them.

There is one more database independent technology to read/update data: eXpress Persistent Objects. You can find a tutorial here: Getting Started. Please check to see whether or not XPO is more convenient for you, than ADO.NET. Let me know if you have any further questions in this regard. I will be happy to answer them.

                                Thanks,
                                Uriah
