                                  • Duplicate line works strange

                                    [VB.NET]
                                    Dim saveCursor As Cursor = Cursor.Current Cursor.Current = saveCursor Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor

First line and third line works fine, but the second line duplicates strange way

This is the result of duplicate line for each line of code:

                                    [VB.NET]
                                    Dim saveCursor As Cursor = Cursor.Current Dim saveCursor As Cursor = Cursor.Current Cursor.Current = saveCursorCursor Cursor.Current = saveCursor Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor Cursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor

                                  Hi Robert,

Thank you for pointing out this issue and providing code sample. I have reproduced this incorrect behavior of the Smart Duplicate feature on my side. We are working on it and will notify you of our progress.

Duplicate line is silly as it is renaming what should not be renamed after line duplication.

See screencast how duplicate line behaves in VS2017. Also how clever is the same feature in old CR Classic in VS2010.

                                  Robert,

I will discuss this issue with the team. It seems that we can consider improving the Duplicate Line feature so that it will not create links for different types of identifiers.
Please note that you can make the Duplicate Line to work the same way it was working in CR Classic. To do so, please follow the steps below:

                                  1. From the Visual Studio menu, select "CodeRush\Options..." .
                                  2. In the tree view on the left, navigate to this folder:
                                              IDE
                                  3. Select the "Shortcuts" options page.
                                  4. Expand the Code group and select the Duplicate Line shortcut.
                                  5. Enter "false" (without quotes) into the "Parameters" text box.

This will disable links and text fields in the Duplicate Line feature.

                                  See the image below.

                                  That helps for now. Thanks.
Will see if you can improve Duplicate line feature in the future.

                                  Robert,

We have discussed this with the team and will add several new options to the smart duplicate line feature to control how links and text fields are created.
Please give us some time. We will update this ticket as soon as we make any progress.

                                  Hi Robert,

With the recent release we have added the capability to tweak the Duplicate Line behavior. Please use the new "Editor -> All Languages -> Linked Text & Fields" option page to setup it according to your needs.

there is still bug in recent release. When duplicating line with comment.

It works fine in VS2010 but not in VS2016
