                                  • The issue is not specific to VS2017 RC and can also be reproduced with previous Visual Studio versions when upgrading projects to UAP 5.2.2. A ticket has been submitted to Microsoft Connect:

BadImageFormatException in visual designer after update to UAP 5.2.2

Research indicates that the issue doesn't affect all DevExpress controls. RibbonControl and HamburgerMenu work as expected, while errors occur on pages with Editors or Data Grid in them. Probably, the issue affects all controls that use System.Collections.NonGeneric. At the moment, we are waiting for issue resolution from Microsoft.

Since the error message references Loading References in Reflection Only Context,

BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Collections.NonGeneric, Version=4.0.1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. Reference assemblies should not be loaded for execution. They can only be loaded in the Reflection-only loader context. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131058)

Does this article have any bearing on a fix?

                                • Thank you for your suggestion, Rick. We have already tried similar approaches to affect loading assemblies but without success. Please watch for updates of the BadImageFormatException in the VS designer after update to UAP 5.2.2 report.

                                  Thanks,
                                  Michael

                                  Michael,
It appears that the BadImageFormatException can no longer be found at the specified link.
                                • Hi Rick,
Thank you for your update. We are researching why this report was hidden and will update this ticket once we have any news.
                                • Hi again,
It's strange, but that report is not visible for us even after logging in. We don't seem to receive additional notifications about this report, so we decided to create a new one - BadImageFormatException in the VS designer after update to uap 5.2.2. You can track it to be aware of updates.

Thank you for your feedback! We have fixed the problem and the bug fix will be included in an upcoming release (Visual Studio 2017 RC3). Thank you for helping us build a better Visual Studio!

Hopefully this will resolve several of my design issues
                                • Thank you for your update, Rick! We also noticed that the state of the new report was changed, and we will update the current thread once we determine why the samples we received work with VS 2017 R3.
