                                    Answer:
Q: How can this functionality be enabled or disabled?
A: Starting with v15.2.7, the new XAF Web application style is automatically enabled in the new XAF ASP.NET solutions created by the Solution Wizard.
To enable or disable this feature in existing XAF ASP.NET apps, modify the Global class of the YourSolutionName.Web/Global.asax.xx file by calling or commenting out the WebApplication.Instance.SwitchToNewStyle method from within the Session_Start  handler:

                                    [C#]
                                    public class Global : System.Web.HttpApplication { protected void Session_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { WebApplication.SetInstance(Session, new YourSolutionNameWebApplication()); WebApplication.Instance.SwitchToNewStyle(); //!!!!!!!!!!! ... } }
                                    [VB.NET]
Public Class [Global] Inherits System.Web.HttpApplication Protected Sub Session_Start(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) WebApplication.SetInstance(Session, New YourSolutionNameWebApplication()) WebApplication.Instance.SwitchToNewStyle() '!!!!!!!!!!! ... End Sub End Class

Q: Is this feature ready for production use? Should I report issues and suggestions while testing this new style with my existing apps?
A: Yes, while we still continue to refine things, we believe that  this feature is ready to be used in production and we do not expect major breaking changes going forward.
We are also eagerly looking forward to your input via the Support Center so that we can improve our product to better meet your specific application requirements. Please submit separate tickets for each problem for better tracking. Thanks for your help in advance!

Q: What are the supported web browsers?
A: All modern desktop and tablet browsers supporting CSS3.

Q: Is this new style optimized for small touch devices like smartphones?
A: Currently, only desktop and tablet browsers are supported as we have not yet performed special optimizations for such small screens. However, even on such mobile devices the UX when working with XAF web sites was greatly improved, especially on modern and fast phones. So, we recommend you check it first, because it may already meet your business needs. If this does not meet your needs, consider using a different approach described at  eXpressApp Framework > Getting Started > XAF Mobile (CTP) Tutorial.

Q: Can I get the lost icons for navigation items back and was this removal intentional?
A:  The current design fully reflects our vision of modern interfaces, and we believe that the navigation control without images looks better than with them. So, they are intentionally not shown. If you still want to enable image showing in the navigation container, set the static ShowImages property of the DevExpress.ExpressApp.Web.Templates.ActionContainers.NavigationActionContainer class to true in the same place where you enable the new style OR customize the IModelRootNavigationItemsWeb.ShowImages property in the Model Editor.

Q: By default, the new template takes only about 2/3 of the available browser page width on wide screens. Is it possible to stretch the new template so it occupies all the available space?
A: You can remove the size limitation by adding the static DevExpress.ExpressApp.Web.Templates.DefaultVerticalTemplateContentNew.ClearSizeLimit method call in the same place where you enable the new style.

Q: How can I provide a custom logo image for my Web app?
A: You can use one of the two approaches described in the Task-Based Help > How to: Change an Application Logo and Info  help article (note: the embedded resource logo image should be working with v16.1.8+).
Q:  Can I disable UPPER CASE for navigation groups and grid columns?
A:  Yes, you can do this by using individual static NavigationGroupsUpperCaseGroupUpperCase and GridColumnsUpperCase properties of the static DevExpress.ExpressApp.Web.WebApplicationStyleManager class in the same place where you enable the new style. To disable upper case everywhere, set the static EnableUpperCase property to false.

Q: Can I provide Application Model customizations for a specific type of devices (e.g., desktop, tablets, phones)?
A: Yes, you can provide browser user agent-specific customizations of the Application Model by including specially named XAFML files in the YourSolutionName.Web project. The following predefined names are currently supported:
                                        - Model.Desktop.XAFML for desktop browsers
                                        - Model.Tablet.XAFML for tablet browsers
                                        - Model.Mobile.XAFML for smartphone browsers.
Technically, these XAFML files will form the next Application Model layer (with the help of FileModelStore) above the base Model.XAFML one, which can hold shared customizations for all devices; e.g., localizations. If you added customized Model.XXX.XAFML files, it is important to make the theme switch via the WebApplication.Instance.SwitchToNewStyle method prior to the XafApplication.Setup call.

Q: Can I use the new and old templates within the same XAF Web application simultaneously and switch them at runtime?
A: Yes, you can, but it is important to switch the new style not later than the XafApplication.LoggedOn  event is fired. For instance, you can detect the browser agent and set a required theme programmatically (in YourSolutionName.Web/Global.asax.xx file):

                                    [C#]
                                    using DevExpress.ExpressApp.Web; ... public class Global : System.Web.HttpApplication { protected void Session_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { WebApplication.SetInstance(Session, new MainDemoWebApplication()); DeviceCategory category = DeviceDetector.Instance.GetDeviceCategory(); if(category == DeviceCategory.Mobile || category == DeviceCategory.Tablet) { WebApplication.Instance.SwitchToNewStyle(); } WebApplication.Instance.Setup(); } }
                                    [VB.NET]
Imports DevExpress.ExpressApp.Web ... Public Class [Global] Inherits System.Web.HttpApplication Protected Sub Session_Start(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) WebApplication.SetInstance(Session, New MainDemoWebApplication()) Dim category As DeviceCategory = DeviceDetector.Instance.GetDeviceCategory() If category Is DeviceCategory.Mobile OrElse category Is DeviceCategory.Tablet Then WebApplication.Instance.SwitchToNewStyle() End If WebApplication.Instance.Setup() End Sub End Class

Q:  How can I choose or enable the Material, Moderno, Metropolis and other DevExpress ASP.NET themes with the new XAF Web UI?
A:  You can change themes only with the Classic Web UI as described at eXpressApp Framework > Concepts > UI Construction > ASP.NET Web Application Appearance. At the moment, the Material, Metropolis, Moderno and other standard ASP.NET themes are not fully compatible with the XAF New Web UI and we do not guarantee their correct operation. You can learn more on this from this article.

                                  Hi Dennis,
Regarding this point: A: We do not recommend this for now as this feature is currently in CTP and there are known issues and uncovered scenarios. The existing apps will also require additional adjustments from your side to comply with the new UI concept.
What kind of adjustment do I need to do in my existing web module? Do you have a to do list for that? FYI, I have fully functional Win module and barely touch the web, do you have any suggestion on how to try this version? Removing all the *.Web and re-adding new *.web would be acceptable for me.

                                • Dennis (DevExpress) 05.25.2015

@Achmad: For the new style you will mainly need to recheck and redo the layout of your detail forms to avoid unnecessary frames and paddings. We do not have a concrete list of such changes at the moment.
To learn more on how to try the new style in an existing Web project, just use the code from the beginning of this article. You do not need to remove or read anything.

@Dennis : I've downloaded and installed DevExpressComponents-15.1.2.exe side by side with 14.2.7 to test the beta. I'm especially interested in improvements regarding XAF.Web which we've been waiting for a long time.
It appears that I will test the new UI quite thoroughly :) Where should I direct my feedback ?

                                • Dennis (DevExpress) 05.25.2015

@Hakan: Thank you for your interest. Feel free to report your feedback by creating separate tickets in the Support Center.
I hope you will find the FAQ above helpful as well.

                                  Hi Dennis,
This template looks promising however, I have a form with three actions. Two simple and one parametrized action. The two actions are shown even when the form is shrunk but the parametrized one disappears. See files attached for before and after screen shots.

                                  Hello James,

Thanks for your feedback. To process your recent post more efficiently, I created a separate ticket on your behalf: T255184: New Web UI - Certain Actions may disappear when the form is shrunk. Is it possible to adjust the new template?

                                • Dennis (DevExpress) 07.28.2015

@Arjan: We do not currently provide the capability to customize a corresponding template. We will take your scenario into account for the future.
Would you please elaborate a bit more on your ultimate goal from the end-user perspective?

Hi Dennis, there should be the possibility to change the layout. At least the URL for Logo (dynamic image, not static) and a link to the logo with target blank.
                                  This is also struck me:
Navigation history is missing, this would be good a menu in the header
Cancel button in the Edit mode is missing
                                  Quick Create is missing
Headline is too short, long headlines generate multiple lines, headline and menu should not be in a row

                                • Dennis (DevExpress) 07.29.2015

@Mario: Thanks for your update! Yes, we are already aware of these things from your yesterday's ticket...

HI Dennis, upgraded to 15.1.5 and now get error "An object reference is required for the non-static field, method, or property 'WebApplication.SwitchToNewStyle()'"

                                • Alexey (DevExpress Support) 08.11.2015

                                  Hello James,
In one of our hot fixes the code was changed to :

                                  [C#]
                                  WebApplication.Instance.SwitchToNewStyle();

The SwitchToNewStyle method is no longer static. We will update this article after 15.1.6 release.

                                  Hi Denis,
                                  Is there anyway to add
                                     - Model.Tablet.XAFML: tablet browsers;
                                     - Model.Mobile.XAFML: smartphones browsers (not yet supported).
to an upgraded solution (from 14.x to 15.x)?

                                • Dennis (DevExpress) 09.11.2015

@Normansyah: Sure, just create a copy of the Model.XAFML file, rename it accordingly and include this source file into your XAF website.

Just to be sure that I understand this correctly ...
Model.Tablet.XAFML and Model.Mobile.XAFML are not differencing model files, based on the Model.XAFML?

                                • Dennis (DevExpress) 10.07.2015

@Jens: These are independent XAFML files, which are not based on Model.XAFML.

@Dennis: It´s not working with dashboard module from expandframework. Is there any possibility in 15.2 ? The dashboard module is really important for my customers. Thanks

                                • Dennis (DevExpress) 10.07.2015

@stwart marques: It should already operate correctly in XAF v15.1.7 after the T273459 fix. If your problem is different, please submit a separate ticket with additional details. Thanks.

I've tested this new UI with my project and I've found two problems:

                                  1. there is a lot of space between controls
                                  2. the fonts are very big
I know this is "the beauty" of this theme but in real applications with a lot of information to display...it becomes a real problem.

I just wanted to know if this new theme feature is stable and final in 15.2.3?
Can we use it in production environment now?
                                  Regards.

For testing is ok, but not for production yet as some features is not really working properly based on my last week testing

@Amin: Yes. Let me quote myself from https://community.devexpress.com/blogs/eaf/archive/2015/11/26/xaf-web-ux-enhancements-coming-soon-in-v15-2.aspx:
"In this release cycle, we've evolved our web page templates and themes optimized for touch devices (released in v15.1). While we still continue to refine things, we believe that this feature is ready to be used in production and we do not expect major breaking changes going forward."

@Phan Sin Tian: Would you please submit a separate ticket in the Support Center and share your testing results (exactly what did not work properly) with us?

I use this in production and except for some slight discomfort, it is not as buggy. There were some controls that did not lend themselves to this UI but I haven't tested since before 15.1.

I look forward to the support center ticket so we can track the testing.

                                  Hi,
Are there any plans to add various themes to new web ui now that it is production ready?
                                  Regards,
                                  Mario

I would rather they let us customise it ourselves. It is pretty basic with about three colours.

                                • Dennis (DevExpress) 12.09.2015

@James: Thanks for sharing your experience with the XAF community.

@Mario: Not yet. For now, you can customize the default theme using standard ASP.NET approaches. Please refer to the How to change the color theme of the new Web style ticket for more details.
Should you have any special requests or suggestions in this regard, please submit a separate ticket in the Support Center. Thanks in advance!

                                  Hello,
do you have any raw estimation when the new design will be officially released? For example first quarter of 2016?
And could you outline what changes will be required for existing projects?

                                • Dennis (DevExpress) 12.30.2015

                                  @DKx:
                                  >>do you have any raw estimation when the new design will be officially released? For example first quarter of 2016?
It was already released in v15.2.4. See the XAF - Web UX Enhancements (Coming soon in v15.2) announce for more details.
Also,  the new web style will likely be the default choice for newly created XAF ASP.NET projects in one of the next minor product updates (the corresponding learning materials will be updated as well by this time).
Note that we do not have immediate plans to remove the former XAF Web UI and themes and it will exist and be maintained for a while.

                                  >>And could you outline what changes will be required for existing projects?
Please check out the instructions above or see the WebApplication > SwitchToNewStyle topic in the online XAF documentation.
Should you have any problems using the new web style in your projects, we will be more than happy to discuss them and help you.

@Dennis - is there any central place that the new web UI is being discussed, or is it the FAQs posted above, plus searching Tickets and hoping to fund nuggets of info ?
