Aakash (http://www.aakashrestaurant.co.uk) is an Indian restaurant situated in Cleckheaton near Bradford, UK. The restaurant is famous not only for its delicious buffet of a large variety of Indian dishes, but also for its three function halls with seating capacity for 700 guests. The venue, which has been described on many occasions as "the largest Indian restaurant in the world", reopened in 2007 under new management with £½ million ($1 ½ million) spent on refurbishment to contrast with the Victorian charm of the actual building. Since then Aakash has been attracting both the local community as well as visitors to the area who are anxious to see what all the fuss is about. And by all accounts they leave knowing why Aakash stands head and shoulders above other Indian restaurant experiences.

Aakash needed to design an information system to automate buffet bookings, wedding & function hall bookings, food orders for takeouts and deliveries, with an elegant way of tracking bookings and allocating task management. Aakash solicited the help of Software Surgeons, Inc. to devise an elegant and efficient software solution for their business situation.

Software Surgeons designed a feature-rich yet easy-to-use software solution to automate the entire business process for Aakash. The major challenge was to facilitate customer bookings, keep track of vendors and design a POS like terminal to handle takeout orders and customer collections. Scheduling, function tracking and task management were another set of important milestones for the project.
The product Software Surgeons delivered offers intuitive interface design, state-of-the-art look and feel with easy-to-use functionality; thanks to the DevExpress Windows Forms suite, our development was expedited allowing us to concentrate on business functionality rather than spending days and nights working around user interface design.
Customer Service quality has greatly improved for the Aakash Restaurant since the product implementation. Now it has become easier for the management team to handle business functions with fewer resources and at a reduced cost. The DevExpress technology has played a crucial role in the success of the Software Surgeons’ product.

An attractive and feature-rich point-of-sale (POS) terminal has been designed to handle takeouts and food collection. The use of a touch-screen terminal has improved the efficiency of order taking. This is a comprehensive module which lists over a hundred food items. The user can easily include food items in the order, can make them mild (by clicking on green circle), medium (blue circle) & hot (red circle) depending upon customer preferences. A receipt printer is used to print customer receipts and a food preparation list for kitchen staff.

Aakash restaurant is famous for its Indian buffet, with over 30 dishes including starters, main courses and desserts. Effective buffet booking has been accomplished by designing an easy-to-use layout with advanced functionality. The booking form allows the user to search on every field and offers inclusive and exclusive search capabilities. The booking list is colorized to distinguish between different types of bookings.

The task management and scheduling facility is fundamental to the operation of the restaurant. The restaurant has the capacity to handle 700 customers simultaneously in three different halls. Function tracking was one of the main requirements for the solution.
The appointment detail form was customized to handle all the information related to function and wedding bookings. The customer detail, size of the party and price information, resources and booking types were included in the form to better address the function bookings.

A comprehensive and modern layout is designed to manage entities in the software. Every entity i.e. Customer, Food Category, Food etc. has a list like those below, which offers filtering on important fields. Each entity has a separate form for management. The entity management form allows the addition, updating and deletion of entities with a navigation facility.
