i am waiting for this functionalitys
                                  - views ( table layout/medium/large )
                                  - Show long file names
                                  - Show percentage and time in seconds for the upload ( for large upload files )

                                • Hi Xavier: we appreciate your feedback and we will discuss these features in regard to future ASPxFileManager updates.
As a side note, I kindly ask you to avoid mixing different tasks/ideas in a single ticket. This will help us and our users process and handle Support Center tickets more efficiently.

I'm eagerly waiting on this feature too - do you have any time estimates on when it will be implemented? In fact, it's one of important points we'll consider when deciding whether our subscription should be renewed.

                                • tule mon 06.29.2012

Yes, I agree - this feature is very much needed. Please add.

                                • Mike Sampson 06.29.2012

We have a web site project that heavily depends on this functionality. If it is not added to DevExpress, we will use other tools - possibly reverting to HTML and VBScript, which is already working, though tough to maintain. Our users would not tolerate the interface offered by ASPxFileManager.

                                • We have included this feature on our TO-DO list for this year. However, I cannot comment on release dates, since we have yet to set them. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

                                • I am afraid, we do not have any news at present.

                                • coenies 08.03.2012

I would also consider this enhancement essential.

                                • Yoel Cuba 08.03.2012

I agree Coenies. This request was posted around 2 years ago and nothing yet. I working with another FileManager control only because the ASPxFileManager not have multiples view.

                                • Nickolay Tupikov 08.04.2012

ASPxFileManager is a rudimentary control which has a great potential. Unfortunately, it looks like DevExpress is not really interested in its development, because the following vital features are still suggestions:
                                  1. Different views (currently, the control can only be used to select images effectively, not so useful for files with long names) - this case, created 2 years ago.
                                  2. The ability to copy files (http://www.devexpress.com/Support/Center/Question/Details/S138016) - hey, have you ever seen a file manager which cannot copy files or folders? I haven't, and I saw a lot of them, starting from NC running under DOS. You've implemented the ability to move files (and move = copy + delete), so why it's so difficult to add a single button which will copy them? The case is one year old right now.
                                  3. The ability to select multiple files (http://www.devexpress.com/Support/Center/Question/Details/S135920) - hey, have you ever seen a file manager which does not allow multi-selection? Even Windows Explorer does this... The suggestion is 2 years old right now and I'm not even sure it will ever be implemented - it seem to be marked as duplicated, although it's not - it's totally different from multi-files upload. The "detailed research" seem to take long, eh? :)
                                  4. The ability to select files/folders programmatically (http://www.devexpress.com/Support/Center/Question/Details/S37607) - hey, have you ever seen a control which does not allow programmatic selection? I don't think I did... the case is 1+ year old.
                                  5. The ability to add custom toolbars and buttons (http://www.devexpress.com/Support/Center/Question/Details/S135919). Extremely useful if you want to allow your end users edit/view files in a new window, or smth like that. Hey, the toolbar is just an ASPxMenu, all you need is to allow working with the menu on the server. It will take 5 minutes to create a public property, which will return the toolbar control. The case is 1.5 years old.
                                  6. Finally, the ability to open files in a preview window (http://www.devexpress.com/Support/Center/Question/Details/S36153), although this one has a number of workarounds (no workarounds for 1-5, unless you create your own files copy button outisde of ASPxFileManager). This case is also two years old.

Although ASPxFileManager is one of the main reasons why we prolonged our DX subscription recently, I'm starting to loose any hopes regarding the future of this control. I realize that its not so wide-spread as grids or tree views, but it's a shame that its functionality still remains so poor and limited in comparison to other DX controls.

Yoel, can you give me a link to a description of the FileManager control you use in your project? If it allows multiple views, I think we'll consider migrating to it if things are not going to change with ASPxFileManager.

P.S.: my friend's child is younger than some of these suggestions and I'm not even sure they'll be implemented when the kid goes to school :-D

                                • Yoel Cuba 08.05.2012

Wow Nickolay great description of the Filemanager features history.

                                • Yoel Cuba 08.06.2012

Your welcome Patrick and Nickolay. I just hope that DevExpress look at the link. I think DevExpress is the forgotten a little of this control. This control is so important to the web as a DataGrid.

                                • Mike Sampson 08.06.2012

Thanks Yoel. The tool looks promising, though the L&F soesn't really fit with the DevExpress controls. Do you know of a doc that shows how to incorporate it into a VS web project?

                                • Hello,

First of all, thank you for your valuable feedback. We greatly appreciate it.

I should note that we do not drop developing the ASPxFileManager control. However, there are several priority rules described in the this blog post related to implementing certain features.

We agree that this feature is most requested in the ASPxFileManager control. We will do our best to implement it in the nearest major version 12.2.

                                  @Yoel Cuba:
We kindly request you not to post links to the competitors' products in our Support Center tickets. According to our Terms of Use, we had to remove the mentioned link and competitor name from your comments.

                                • Yoel Cuba 08.06.2012

I agree Mike, but dont missunderstand my comments. If I added that link was to help two Devexpress client that need that particular feature. Like I help Devexpress to sale over 15 Enterprise licenses to Miami-Dade County because I recomend your products to the IT Manager. Also I not consider a competitor simple GPL file manager, but I agree to not put that kind of information in the support system. Normally that info is for blogs.

                                • Nickolay Tupikov 08.06.2012

Mike, great news, glad to hear that customers' opinion is still important for DX. Can you also give us updates on the other 5 cases mentioned in my comment? I'm sure that there are other customers waiting for those features' implementation.

BTW, I'm not sure whether you currently do this or not, but are you considering the number of page views, comments and people who add a suggestion to their favorites (to track its status) when calculating the importance (or "rating") of the suggestion for customers? If you don't, I think it might be a good idea - this can help your team learn more on what features customers need.

                                • Steve Seltz 08.06.2012

Nickolay is correct. (Unless you are already doing all that but our page-views and watches didn't "rise to the level"...)
FYI, I have also been waiting and watching for years, hoping to see ANY progrerss on this control. (Or practically any useful ASPx development at all...)
I don't want to say DevX has abandoned ASPx development, but it sure looks like that is the case from here.
Think again about your response above, DevX...
If that ->completely free<- GPL control is a "competitor", and it is arguably far superior to DevX in many ways, then WHAT are our subscription fees paying for???
                                  Clearly, not for ASPx development.
This fact is becoming more and more apparent to your user community.
So, I think I can speak for many:
                                   Either -
                                     1) DO the development.
                                          - or -
                                     2) DO NOT "accept" it onto some TO-DO list that will NEVER be TO-DONE.
So we can all move along.
I am SO sorry to say all this. I am a BIG fan of DevX. I keep pushing to renew our subscriptions every year.
BUT, if your product is NOT being actively enhanced in useful ways, it makes less and less sense to renew every year.
That's just my $.02, as a LONG time watcher of this thread (and many others) , holding my tongue until now...

                                • Tom Remmers 08.07.2012

I really like DevX products, and the support is generally outstanding, so their treatment of this issue is surprising. I've been following this thread for a couple years, and it's simply time for DevX to make a solid commitment. Given how long this issue has been open vague reassurances aren't enough, and are somewhat discourteous because it makes it difficult to manage and budget projects. No valid reasons have been raised against including the features requested in this thread, and echoing comments above, DevX should do the decent thing and either let us know these features will never be implemented, or stop dissembling and just do it.

                                • Thank you all for your feedback. We appreciate it.

We are looking into your comments and suggestions for improving the ASPxFileManager in future releases.

As we have more news, we will update this thread.

                                  Thanks again.

                                • Nickolay Tupikov 08.08.2012

Mehul, could you please answer my question above? It looks like Mike ignored it...

                                • Nickolay and everyone on this thread,

First, thanks for your feedback. We do consider it. The status of Accepted can be confusing so I recommend reading this post from our head of support:
Accepted - TBD - what the heck does it mean?! - http://dxpr.es/P01Z24

In essence, we look at the feedback and we do want to improve our products. This want is always measured against the needs to improve all our products by adding features, introducing new products and even support new platforms. Like any company, DevExpress has limited resources and we have to choose, as a company, what direction we will take every year.

So, to answer your question, we do have plans to improve the product. And when we decide on the exact dates, the suggestions will get updated. For sure the ASPxFileManager will be improved in the future because we have discussed it. However, we do not speak about dates or releases because plans can change depending on various circumstances.

Thank you for choosing DevExpress and for helping us make the products better. I appreciate it.

Hey DevExpress, just wanted to add my comment about having a tremendous need to add a details/list view for File Manager. My users are often struggling to find the correct files due to the abbreviating of file names with elipses in the thumbnail view. Please put this on the list to get done in the next release.

                                • Mario Malvido 08.16.2012

Hey DevExpress Team, just wanted add my comment:

For ASPxFileManger it's really a good idea select all files or select multiples files and download all files or download select multiples files.

                                  Thanks in advance

                                • Helenmary Cody 08.17.2012

I would also like to see the FileManager have more flexibility in displaying the file names. Displaying the full file name would be a big help!

i want to know that can we sort items shown in the aspxfilemanager by datetime, name and size like windows explorer header sorting ?

if yes then i would love it and if no then this facility must be there.

                                • @Yesenia:
Thank you for your update. Please refer to the ASPxFileManager - Provide the multi-file selection with relative events report regarding this.

                                  @Antonio:
I believe that this capability should be a part of this feature (when displaying files in the table/detail view).

                                  @All:
Thank you for your feedback and activity. We appreciate it.

Just adding my voice to the chorus. A "details" view on this thing would make a pretty good control 100% better. And if you really wanted to hit the ball out of the park, add native support for Amazon S3, SkyDrive, Google drive to it.

Nothing yet? The original request is close to two years old. My comments have 3 months older now. Somebody in Dev Express have an idea when will be deployed this changes on this control?

                                • Hello Yoel;

For now I do not have news about the implementation of this feature. We will announce this feature when it is implemented. I suggest you enable the 'Product Announcements' options in the 'Email Notification Options' section of your account to receive notifications about new features in our products.

                                Implementation Details:
We have implemented the Details view for the ASPxFileManager. You can use the View property to enable this mode. In the Details view mode, a file list is represented by a grid containing information about files. You can use the DetailsViewSetting property settings to customize the mode functionality.

Additionally, we have provided the FileManagerFileListDetailsViewSettings.ThumbnailSize and FileManagerFileListThumbnailsViewSettings.ThumbnailSize properties that allow you to specify the size of thumbnails for different modes.

You can try the new functionality in the File Manager - Details View demo.
