What have you set the SearchMode property to?

Until you make a selection from the LookUpEdit, its value is NULL. By default, it will display "EditValue is null" for NULL values.

It is not quite clear how to reproduce this issue. I have created a sample project based on your description, and it operates as expected here. Would you please modify the attached sample project to demonstrate the issue, so that we can investigate it and find a solution?
