Chart Diagrams

Chart Views stand out from other Views as they allow you to display complex numerical data in an extremely easy to understand but very informative manner. A chart diagram represents a way of displaying data in Chart Views. In addition to Column and Bar diagrams introduced in version 5.5, the ExpressQuantumGrid v6 offers you Area, Line, and Pie diagrams thus increasing the number of the available diagram types up to five. Both simple and multiple (stacked) diagrams can be drawn. Please refer to the New Chart Types section of the What's New in v6 white paper for details on new diagram types.

  • Data Abstraction
This approach gives you incredible flexibility in visualizing data. Imagine a chart diagram as a way of rendering the data you provide. Choosing a particular way is as simple as switching a chart diagram.
  • Instant Switch Between Diagrams
The Chart View can contain several chart diagrams at the same time - and each can have its own unique layout and appearance settings. By choosing which diagram will render the chart within the Chart View, you can change its appearance virtually on the fly and this requires you to change only a single property.
  • Diagram Selector
The ExpressQuantumGrid v6 introduces the specially designed UI element, Diagram Selector, that enables end-users to choose the diagram to render the chart from a list of the available diagram types. And obviously, you decide which of diagram types should be available in this list.
  • Fully Customizable Diagrams
From a chart legend to value markers and data labels on series values - every appearance aspect of a chart is completely under your control.

Chart Layout

By default, a Chart View is initialized with settings which provide a standard appearance for a chart. Needless to say, both you and your end-users have a number of options by using which chart elements can be arranged as their needs dictate.

  • Customizable Position of Elements
Every element in a chart whether it is a chart legend, axis, title or even tick marks have options which affect their general appearance and position within the chart. This ensures that the chart has all the required elements to visualize data in the way which is most appropriate to your end-users. Moreover, with the Customization form for Chart Views introduced in the ExpressQuantumGrid v6, your end-users are able to easily customize various appearance aspects of chart elements.
  • Data Sorting
The Chart View allows you to sort data, which helps your end-users to categorize and evaluate the information displayed in the chart with ease.
  • Paging Capability
Starting from version 6, you can limit the number of categories simultaneously displayed within a chart diagram (fit in a "page") using a specially designed property to produce more readable charts. End-users can scroll contents of the chart to see the information which doesn't fit into a page.

Data Analysis

In Chart Views, series values are arranged into categories to represent data at a particular level of detail or data level. The previous version of the ExpressQuantumGrid had a data level which represented a single value of a series per category, i.e. the highest level of detail. With version 6, you can create as many data levels as you require, group series values within the same categories and display aggregate values at any level of detail.

As with group summaries in tabular Views, you can specify one of the built-in functions (value count, sum, average, maximum and minimum values), which is used to calculate aggregate values for each series. In addition, you can enable the interactive drill-down functionality for your end-users so that they can get a big picture of the displayed data and also drill into details. Please refer to the A More Flexible Way to Analyze Data – Data Groups and Drill Down section of the What's New in v6 white paper for additional information.
