WinForms Data Editors

Unmatched End-User Capabilities

We've described countless features included within the XtraEditors Library throughout this website, but we wanted to summarize a few that relate to capabilities available to your end-users - those that were engineered to simplify their everyday activities.

Text Input Enhancements

Our editors offer the following features that allow users to type less and experience more productivity during data entry.

  • Masked Input
Via Regular Express and other mask editor features, you can reduce the amount of text entered by your customers.
  • Automatic String Completion in Masked Editors
  • Automatic String Completion in Editors with Dropdown Lists
  • Most Recently Used Lists
  • Custom Value Parsing

Keyboard Support

Most data editing in an application is accomplished via the keyboard, but we also offer you a means with each to significantly improve the user experience by providing mnemonics and custom shortcuts wherever applicable. We also ship a number of keyboard management features you won't find in any other data editor library.

  • Moving through the Tab Order with the ENTER Key
For some, it's natural to press the ENTER key to move focus to the next control and with a simple property setting, you can accomplish this very thing.
  • Mnemonics for All Elements
Mnemonics is supported by radio group items, check boxes, buttons, tab control pages, group controls and even individual editor buttons.
  • Custom Shortcuts
You can specify a custom shortcut to open and or close a dropdown window or assign shortcuts to editor buttons without handling any events.
  • Value Scrolling Via the Keyboard and Mouse Wheel

Value Scrolling

  • Option Selection
Selecting a value by scrolling is available in the radio group control and all controls with dropdown lists (even when the dropdown is closed).
  • Numeric Value Scrolling
By default, the SpinEdit control allows value scrolling by a specified increment value. If you apply a numeric mask to an editor, you get more flexible scrolling options. Scrolling affects the digit prior to the caret. When a digit exceeds 9, it is reset to 0 and the preceeding digit is incremented by one.
  • Date-Time Value Scrolling
If a date-time mask is applied to an editor, end-users can move focus between the date or time portion of the control using navigation keys. Scrolling affects the currently focused region. When a region is scrolled beyond its maximum, it is reset to the minimum value without affecting other regions.
  • Double-Click Scrolling
Editors with dropdown lists allow end-users to choose the next value by double-clicking the edit box.

Miscellaneous

  • Picture Editor Context Menu
All Image Editors allow users to load images into data fields from files on disk or copy them to the editor via the clipboard.
  • Resizable Dropdown Windows
Our editors allow end users to manipulate the actual size of individual dropdown lists. With this powerful feature, you'll never have to worry about selecting the appropriate size for your dropdowns at design time and deliver a more robust experience to your end-users.
  • Incremental Filtering in LookUpEdit Controls
You can force the LookUpEdit control to filter the contents of its dropdown based upon values entered by the user. Each time you type a new character, the dropdown list is updated to display only the items that match the entered characters.
