I have found the DevExpress components to be the best there is. Let me explain why. Their components are developed with precision and expertise. Their documentation is exceptional and thorough. I find their appearance to be the best there is. With little effort a developer is able to create a professional looking application that far exceeds other after-market component suites.
I've used /name of competitor removed/ suite of components only to find out that they are illogical and poorly written. When you have a component that is disabled but you're still able to focus the control that tells me it's poorly written.
Every contract position I take I always highly suggest that my employer purchase the DevExpress suite of components. When they do purchase the products, it's nothing but praise for my work because it looks so good. It's really not my hard work, but the developers behind the DevExpress components that deserve the praise.
I sell a commercial product called TaskPilot that's written using the DevExpress components and get compliments all the time on it's professional look and feel. The new version will implement the new Ribbon Bar component which just adds to the existing professional look and feel.
Their eXpress Persistent Objects (XPO) is a far superior Object Relational Mapping (ORM) component compared to what's out there now. Its fast, has great performance, and easy to implement. This ORM is being implemented in the new version of TaskPilot. Working with a database is now easier than ever.
