The Financial Project

The Financial project is aimed at financial institutions like investment banks, brokerage houses, asset management houses and financial consulting houses. The project's goal is to provide a complete set of tools to control the whole business process, including stocks, derivatives and fixed income operations. We chose to develop for ASP.NET, due to a needed accessibility, as well as its quicker and painless "deployment process". Countless number of reports is available, in order to furnish the customers with a complete set of information. Despite the completeness of the offered products, our company is proud of its flexibility and responsivess, assuring the commitment of providing the best relationship with our customers.

Choosing Developer Express

When we started our company, one main thought was how to optimize things, trying not to "reinvent the wheel". We could have chosen to use standard ASP.NET controls, that would have been the easier decision, but then several benefits would have been just thrown away. We wanted to overcome the common sense around the web-based software statement "softwares that run over the web are expected to be slow, not responsive, with a poor interface".

Our research didn't last long. After a couple of months, exhausting tests were made, and we pleased chose DevExpress. That was in 2005, when we first bought XtraReports. We were amazed at how it fulfilled the gaps we had with the previous report tool. One top feature was how we could manage it to summarize and compute values using the several server events available in it.

After that we then got ASPxperience, firstly for its menu and popup controls. That's the classic case in which we happily get an unexpected gift! ASPxCallback and ASPxNavBar were more than welcome, each one had a decisive impact in our project. ASPxCallback came up as an elegant intermediary for our server-client conversations, bringing the AJAX functionality to another level. We used it along with AJAX Toolkit, as well as with AJAX Extensions. Below goes a screenshot of an example using the ASPxGridView in inline editing mode.

Great Looking UI (ASP.NET Themes)

One top feature of all DevExpress components is its available themes. We used glass theme, and adjusted it for our needs. This brought our user interface to another level, since we could easily adapt it to be coherent with our main application page.

Web Performance: Fast and Verstaile

The latest acquisition was ASPxGridView. When we started looking for a good grid component, our goal was to find one that provided funcionalities not available in the standard gridview, grouping among them. We also needed a component that would not trade performance for elegance and beauty. ASPxGridView does all it promises and more. Although we haven't gone through all its possibilities, we are convicted we made the best choice, since it's not only powerful, but also easy to build solutions with it. We just love its client-event features, that made our life really easy, and when combined with ASPxCallback (for components that go inside the grid's templates) we could build a real AJAX top solution!
